The initial kitchen configuration exuded a confined atmosphere, characterized by an obstructive bullhead ductwork above the door leading to the
yard and an excess of ceiling cabinets that contributed to visual clutter. Addressing the perceptible slant upon entering the kitchen became our
foremost priority. The remediation process commenced with the removal of the original flooring and subfloor, revealing joists in need of
reinforcement and repair due to some existing damage. We undertook a comprehensive upgrade to the kitchen floor foundation, addressing structural
issues by reinforcing joists, replacing deteriorated components, and ensuring a robust subfloor. The installation of Oak wood vinyl planking,
extending seamlessly throughout the entire home (excluding bedrooms), brought a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing continuity to the space.
To amplify the sense of openness, we removed kitchen cabinets on the door side, while original cabinets on the countertop side underwent
refurbishment, receiving a fresh sage matte finish and new matte black hardware. The introduction of a substantial 30” stainless steel sink,
accompanied by a black matte faucet and a new garbage disposal, infused a modern sensibility into the kitchen. A faux brick backsplash, adorned
with a white-washed mosaic mirror, was incorporated to impart a contemporary farmhouse aesthetic. The cohesive design was further emphasized by
the integration of industrial-inspired elements, such as an overhead ceiling fan and black matte light fixtures positioned strategically above
the sink and stove, culminating in a harmonious and modernized kitchen space.
The bathroom, characterized by its solid structural foundation, underwent a series of enhancements that amalgamated both aesthetic refinement and heightened functionality. The introduction of a black matte-finished glass shower door not only imparted an expansive ambiance to the space but also conferred water-protective functionality. A contemporary upgrade was realized through the installation of a new vanity complemented by a black matte faucet, accompanied by a tasteful Cedar wood backsplash that harmonized seamlessly with the window beam above. Further refinements extended to the bathroom cubbies, featuring new finishes that contribute to an overall cohesive design. A significant design element, a sizable black matte mirror, serves to harmonize the interplay of wood and dark matte elements, creating a striking contrast against the backdrop of the newly installed light oak vinyl flooring.
The original configuration of the residence dictated a somewhat enclosed entrance, with a hallway door immediately confronting visitors upon entry, segregating the living room and kitchen areas. In our pursuit of a more expansive and interconnected space, we opted to enhance the openness by eliminating floor ductwork and partially dismantling the left wall. This strategic modification preserved a designated mudroom area, offering practicality, especially during inclement weather. The hallway, visually unified by striking large round black matte finish mirrors, is adorned with a purposeful black matte accent wall featuring Birch furring strips. This element not only serves as a focal point but also contributes to the creation of a mudroom bench complete with shoe storage. The addition of numerous hooks facilitates the organization of jackets, scarves, and hats. Importantly, these mirrors seamlessly complement the design ethos pervading the entire home, thereby fostering a cohesive and unified aesthetic throughout.
The living room presented an excellent opportunity for creative expression, and we seized it by incorporating
functional and aesthetically pleasing elements. Floating shelves were introduced on the left side, addressing the need for additional
storage space while contributing to the room's visual appeal. The beautiful windows, a focal point in the space, underwent meticulous
refinishing, and new window treatments were carefully selected to optimize natural light infiltration, thus brightening and enhancing
the overall ambiance of the room.
Extending the design continuity established in other areas of the home, the light oak flooring seamlessly flows into the living room,
complemented by black matte finishes that unify the visual language. This includes the new ceiling fan, thoughtfully chosen to match
the one installed in the kitchen, fostering a cohesive design aesthetic that resonates throughout the entire residence. Introducing
a dual inverter system ensures comprehensive climate control, allowing for both heating and cooling throughout the entirety of the
home. This thoughtful integration of design and functionality in the living room not only enhances the overall living experience but
also contributes to the harmonious and unified design narrative woven throughout the entirety of this creatively transformed home.
The smaller of the two bedrooms, situated to the left of the bathroom, prompted a design approach centered on
light colors to enhance brightness and create an illusion of expansiveness. Given the locale's pronounced winter conditions, we
opted for a plush and thick carpet to provide a comforting haven during the cold winter months. Addressing both the chilling winters
and the extreme summers characteristic of the area, a new energy-efficient ductless mini-split unit was strategically installed,
ensuring optimal climate control throughout the year.
To accommodate the imperative of space maximization, a wood floating desk was introduced, offering a dedicated workspace without
imposing additional clutter upon the already modest-sized room. The choice of matte black hooks and door knobs, extending seamlessly
from the adjacent spaces, played a crucial role in unifying the overall design aesthetic throughout the entire home. This thoughtful
integration of elements not only contributes to a cohesive visual narrative but also ensures that functionality and style are
harmoniously balanced in this smaller yet carefully curated bedroom.
The more spacious of the two bedrooms benefits from an abundance of natural light, owing to the presence of two
windows that not only illuminate the space but also create an airy ambiance, essential for mitigating the modest size of the room.
In the pursuit of a cohesive design language, the window springs were meticulously replaced, and the trim underwent refinishing.
Consistent with the aesthetic applied in the adjacent room, a palette of light colors with tasteful black matte accents was
employed, contributing to an overall harmonious visual continuity.
To cater to the contemporary need for remote workspaces, a floating desk was introduced, providing a dedicated area for work or study
without compromising the room's spacious feel. The incorporation of an energy-efficient dual inverter system enables independent
climate control for each room, allowing occupants to customize the temperature according to their preferences. Additionally, the
ceiling fan underwent refinishing and received a light-colored paint application, strategically chosen to create the optical illusion
of an even more expansive room. This meticulous combination of design elements ensures both functionality and aesthetics are seamlessly
integrated into this larger bedroom, fostering a comfortable and visually cohesive living space.
This bespoke design was conceptualized for a discerning client in Texas seeking to optimize the utilization of their elongated yet limited side yard space. Our solution involved the creation of an expansive 30’ x 15’ deck, meticulously crafted using the resilient Trex Decking material. Employing the innovative Camo nailing system ensured a flawless aesthetic by concealing fastenings and achieving a seamless finish. To enhance accessibility and integration with the main living area, a strategically placed door was incorporated, seamlessly connecting the indoor and outdoor realms and contributing to the overall allure of this splendid outdoor living space.
